What Does a Medical Representative Do?
A medical representative's job is to promote and sell their company's products, whether that's pharmaceutical drugs or medical equipment. Customers can include doctors, nurses and pharmacists. The medical representative will increase product awareness, answer queries, provide advice and introduce new products.
Your Manager will expect you to:
- Organise appointments and meetings with General Practitioners and sometimes Hospital Specialist staff
- Identify and establish new business
- Negotiate contracts with health care providors
- Demonstrating or present products to healthcare staff including doctors, nurses and pharmacists
- Undertaking relevant and ongoing training
- Meet both the business and scientific needs of healthcare professionals
- Maintain detailed records of your activity and interactions
- Attend and organise trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings
- Manage your budgets – both sales and expenses
- Regularly review sales performance
- Write reports and other documents
